Tamarind Rice

Tamarind Rice


Rice – ½ kg
Jaggery – 2
Tamorind – 1 lemon size
Urud dal – 4 tsp
Mustard seed – 1 tsp
Channa Dal – 1 tsp
Asafetida powder – ½ tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Dried Chilly – 3
Green chillies – 3
Salt – to taste
Curry leaves – as required
Gingerly Oil


Steam the rice and keep aside. Soak the tamarind in one come cup of water and make puree out of it. In this Tamarind puree add Jaggery, turmeric powder , salt and keep it in flame and boil for some time and make it thick. Pour oil in a pan and heat the oil. Add mustard seed, urud dal channa dal, dried chillies, green chillies , asafetida powder, cury leaves into it. Pour the tamarind mix into it. Add cooked rice into the mix and mix well. Tamarind rice is ready to serve.
