Mathi / Sardine – Cleaned – ½ Kilo
Onion – finely chopped – ½ cup
Green chillies – cut round – 1 table spoon
Ginger – finely chopped – 1 tea spoon
Garlic – finely chopped – 1 tea spoon
Curry leaves – 2 strip
Turmeric powder – ½ tea spoon
Chilly powder – 1 table spoon
Salt – as required
Thick coconut milk – ½ cup
Coconut oil – 1 table spoon

Method of preparation

Take chopped onion, green chillies, ginger, garlic , one strip of curry leaves, required salt, ¼ spoon of coconut oil and mix well. Take a pan and pour the remaining coconut oil into it and heat. Add the mixed ingredients and saute well. Then add turmeric powder, chilly powder and saute aagain. Then add the cleaned sardine / mathi and then coconut milk into it. keep the stove in simmer and cook. While cooking the oil in the coconut milk should come separate and drained. Wrap the masala in the cooked fish on all sides. Put the remaining curry leaves on top of it and close the lid and keep it for some time. after few minutes . mathi pollichathu is ready to serve.
