Cheera - Adukkala


Cheera – 5 cups
Coconut – ½ cup
Green chillies – 3 nos
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Jeerakam – ½ tsp
Garlic pods – 4 nos
Dry red chillies – 2 nos
Coconut oil – 3 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Salt – As required
Curry leaves – A few


Clean the cheera well and chop it finely. Grind coconut, turmeric powder, green chillies, cumin seeds, garlic and curry leaves into a coarse form. Mix together the chopped cheera along with the coconut mixture and salt. Heat oil in a pan. Mustard seeds and sauté dry red chillies, and curry leaves. Add the cheera-coconut mixture and mix well. Cover and cook on a low flame. Remove the lid and continue cooking till done on a low flame itself.
