For Vada

Urud Dal ( Black gram) – 250 gram
Salt – 1 tea spoon
Green chilly – 3 ( chopped small)
Ginger – 2 pieces
Curry leaves – 2 strip
Oil – to fry

For Rasam

Thuvar dal ( split red gram) – 250 gram
Tamarind juice – 2 tea spoon ( ¼ cup water)
Grated coconut – 4 tea spoon
Jaggery – 25 gram
Salt – as required
Mustard seed , turmeric powder, – 1 tea spoon each
Rasam powder – 2 tea spoon
Asafoetida – 1 pinch
Curry leaves, coriander leaves, – 1 tea spoon each
Oil – 2 table spoon

Method of preparation

To Prepare Vada : Clean the urud dal and soak it for 5 to 6 hours. Drain out the water and grind to make a thick batter. Add the grated ginger, chopped green chillies, chopped curry leaves and mix it.
Take little portion of the batter and make a hole in the middle. Fry it in the oil till it get properly cooked.

To prepare Rasam : Add Salt, Turmeric powder, Jaggery, coconut, Asafoetida to the tuvar dal . Pressure cook it for 15 – 20 minutes, Take a frying pan and heat the oil. Add mustard seed, curry leaves and green chillies and fry.When the mustard seed get spluttered , add rasam powder, salt and tamarind juice into it. Add this mixture into the cooked dal and mix well. on boiling can remove from the stove.

Put the fried vada into the rasam and can serve. Usually Dal Vada or Thuvar Vada is served with rasam. But taste this this will be delicious.
